10-3-18

Yesterday we left Lake Oswego on our big adventure.  We are heading across the country, hoping to see old friends and family and visit cities we have never explored before.

Our first destination was Seven Feathers Casino RV Park in Canyonville, OR.  It is such a beautiful park with level sites and the advantage of the casino's buffet, which is only a shuttle ride away.  The casino is still surrounded by petunias in full bloom.  I couldn't believe how great they looked in October.

We didn't have to unhitch the truck so we were ready to go in the morning with minimal effort.

As we drive we are listening to audio books.  The first one is The Secret Servant by Daniel Silva.  It is a spy story with lots of complicated characters.  We're diligently sorting out the details and enjoying it.

There are so many huge fire scars along I-5.  The first big one we saw was at the Oregon/California border.  The other one was north of Redding.

That one closed the highway for days and there are many workers still clearing the damaged trees.  I am guessing that some of the logs are salvageable as we passed many trucks carrying burnt ones.

It rained part of the day which bodes well for future fire risks this season.  Now we just have to hope that the landslides expected in the next few days because of more rain, are minimal.

Lake Shasta is down again.  The last time we passed it, it had filled considerably but now it is pitiful, again.

I'm just a little ray of sunshine, aren't I?

Tonight we are staying in Red Bluff, CA at another of our favorite places, Durango RV Park.  We will be here for two nights which gives Jazzy a day's break from the Dramamine she needs when we drive.

  1. Sounds like you guys are off to a great start. I've passed Seven Feathers numerous times in my back and forthing to my mom's, always wondered what it looked like -- out there in the middle of not much. Thanks for the pictures of the burns -- just heartbreaking. But Mother Nature will renew -- in this case, her task is monumental. In my travels, I always made a hard right at Grants Pass, headed to 101, but you are obviously sticking to I-5. I was hoping Shasta would still be brimming, but I wonder if a lot of water was pulled out to fight the fires. Last time I personally saw it, it was nearly dry, so, marginally better now. May you all stay safe on the road, including Jazzy's tummy. This is going to be quite the adventure!!! Love to you all!!!
