10-18-18
Welcome to Amarillo.  We've seen lots of signs where the two Ls in the name are two cowboy boots.

It rained nearly the whole trip here.  There were wind farms along Rt. 40 which looked ghostly in the mist.  Very cool.

This is one of the largest American flags I've ever seen.  It was flying over a store called Ganders, which is an outdoor store, kind of like Cabela's.  I've read they will soon be selling RVs in conjunction with Camping World.  We are not fans so this should be interesting.

Cadillac Ranch is a public display of ten Cadillacs, covered in graffiti and half buried in a field.  You can see why we didn't hike out for a closer look.

A local motel decided to tie in their theme to the Cadillacs and had these three set up outside along with the giant "Second Amendment Cowboy".  I don't think we're in Portland any more.

We stopped for an afternoon coffee at our happy place.  If you look closely you will see a blue plaster horse outside, under the tree.

Dinner was at the Big Texan Steak House.  We could have made free reservations at the RV Park to have a limousine with steer horns on the front bring us here, but we decided to drive ourselves.  The place is larger than life with a cowboy-booted lizard out front, and an offer of a free 72 ounce steak dinner if you can finish it in an hour. (If not, you pay $72.) Inside, there was a large Texas themed gift shop and a huge dining room that was overfull.  There were deer and elk heads on every wall.  But, this area is Beef Central so the meal was very good,
