10-15-18

Travel can be very broadening.  So far, we have listened to campaign ads on TV in four states.  They are all the same.  Revolting.  I can't tell who is telling the truth anymore, if anyone actually is.  Thank goodness we only have to listen to this for a few more weeks.  I can't bring myself to contemplate the results.  We voted before we left home.

This morning we visited the Petroglyph National Monument just outside of Albuquerque.  We went to the visitor's center where we were directed to the Boca Negra Canyon, which was supposed to be more appropriate for non-hikers, kids and elders.  RIGHT!  It was a mile-long trail, nearly vertical.

No, we didn't make it to the top.  However, here are some examples of what we saw:

We then visited Historic Old Albuquerque.  It had a central square, typical of old Spanish-style cities and very nice.

Not sure why there was a huge blown-up depiction of Noah's Ark by the square.

A special treat today was riding the Musical Road.  Someone figured out a way to configure rumble strips so if you drive over them at 45 mph with your window open, your tires play "America, the Beautiful"!  Quite amazing.  This was on the old Route 66, which parallels I-40.

Albuquerque does a good job with their public art.  The convergence of I-40 and I-25 is known as The Eye and has turquoise pebbles embedded in all the highway overpasses.

The second picture looks to me like art made of actual rockets.  Lots of nuclear history was made here, but I'm not sure this sculpture has anything to do with that.

Camp Strawderman friends, the third picture which is repeated many times along the highway reminded me of the Indian presentation of the peace pipe to the four directions.  What do you think?
