Our last day in D.C. we had dinner with cousins Ellen and Michael at cousins Abbie and Gordon's home.  Their kids Emily and Hannah were there and we felt lucky to spend time with everyone.  Gary had played golf with Michael and Gordon earlier which was the first time he played on this trip.  It was a great time!!

On the way back to the trailer we took a detour down Memory Lane to see where we used to live in Springfield, VA.  The kids went to Garfield Elementary School.
Our first home was the townhouse on Brocton Ct.
Then we moved to a larger home on Ben Franklin.  The new occupants made an extra room out of the garage.  We were so surprised at how crowded the neighborhood was.  The streets were lined with cars so we think many more people must live in each home than before.  There was absolutely no parking space available in the townhouses or on Ben Franklin. In fact, they had added painted parallel parking spaces even around the kids park.
Today we drove to Ashland, VA near Richmond.  We are staying at a lovely Americamp RV Resort just off of I-95.  It was easy to find and has everything we could want.  There are four other Airstreams already parked here, which is the most we have seen in one place on this trip.

We had dinner with a dear camp friend of mine from the olden days, Carole Sandy (Bum).  We started out at her home and then had a great Thai dinner at a restaurant nearby.  It meant so much to connect with her in person again.
Something that we noticed in one of the states we passed through before was that the toll booths were sponsored by Progressive Insurance and had pictures of TV's Flo on every booth.  In Virginia, we were surprised to see the Geico gecko sponsoring the rest stops.  I guess if companies can sponsor sports stadiums they can sponsor anything.

  1. I suppose you'd find lots of changes to every place you've ever lived. Usually not ones you'd ever have guessed. At least you visited with great people -- which is much more interesting than the buildings. Sounds like a super good time!!
