It was an overcast day in Sparks, NV.  The laundry room in the RV Park was right next to us so I took the opportunity to do it.  After lunch we went to Reno to experience the Riverwalk.  It is on the Truckee River, which was running very high due to snow melt.  This area had been experiencing extreme drought over the past few years, so the near-flooding is almost welcome.

Riverwalk is known for its diverse art.  Below is the BELIEVE sculpture we saw first.
On the upstream edge of the park we saw these huge hands made from trees and lumber.
Next to the hands was a Pentamonium made of bicycle parts.  It originally had bells and on each leg was a control that allowed people to ring one of them.  This promoted musical cooperation.

The Rhinoman and Butterfly were next.

One of my favorites was a sculpture called Nesting.
On a grassy area was a panhandler selling sculptures he made of rocks.

Later we went back to the trailer for a rest and out for dinner.  Tomorrow we leave for Tonopah, NV.  Ever hear of it?

  1. Any idea how Sparks got its name? And Tonopah, yes, oddly I HAVE heard of it, even know how to pronounce it! I've possibly even rolled through it when I camped with family as a kid. Love the art work. Portland should have a look!!
