Promontory Point, UT, in the Golden Spike National Park, is where the western and eastern tracks of the intercontinental railway came together.  A golden spike (replica above) was driven when the last section was laid.  Most days they do a reenactment on the rails outside the visitor center with replicas of the steam engines moving on the tracks.

On the way to Golden Spike we passed the ATK Orbital Propulsion Systems where NASA has satellites built.  They also build munitions and parts for rockets and other "spacey" items.

We tried to go to an art installation that I had never heard of before, the Spiral Jetty on the Great Salt Lake.  Unfortunately, we would have had to drive 15 miles on a dirt road.  We started but quickly decided it was a bad idea.  We were disappointed but you should look it up online.  It is considered the central work of sculptor, Robert Smithson and was built of mud, salt crystals and basalt in 1970.  It is only visible in times of drought.

Today we made it to Starbucks for the first time on the trip.  It was inside a huge and beautiful store called Smith's Marketplace.  They must have some ties to Fred Meyer stores because a FM jewelry store was inside and the gas station outside had the same insignia as FM.

We explored Brigham City a little this afternoon.  It is a very nice place with lovely homes and a beautiful campus of the Utah State University.
On to Wyoming in the morning.

Did you know that the speed limit is 80 in parts of Idaho? I think that is quite amazing!  Of course, we can only do about 64.....

Today we crossed the Snake River and Rattlesnake Pass.  I was happy not to get out of the car near either of those.

The drive was fairly easy but since we have arrived in Brigham City, Utah the wind has been fierce.  Gary has to hold the door when we take Baby outside or it will slam into the side of the TrailBayser.  It is supposed to keep up like this for several more hours.

We are staying at the Brigham City KOA tonight and tomorrow night.  We had dinner at Maddox Ranch House Restaurant and I had a bison steak for the first time.
I think I like beef better but it wasn't that scary.  They also served corn pone at this restaurant and we both liked it.  They are known for their bread.  Just what we both need!!

Actually, we had a very lucky day.  Yesterday we knew we had a leak having to do with connecting to the city water.  Today our pre-planned route coincidentally took us past an Airstream repair facility in Caldwell, ID which is owned by the same people who own the one in Portland where we bought our trailer.  We were able to make an appointment and they had us in and out in two hours.  The leak is fixed!  We didn't have to turn around and go home. How great is that?  (Baby was a big hit in the waiting room.)

We had breakfast this morning in the Wildhorse Casino in Pendleton and left by 9 so we could get to our repair appointment on time.  On our way we had lots of sunshine and a little rain on a fairly mountainous route into Idaho and also changed time zones.

We are staying tonight in Mountain Home RV Resort, a beautiful RV park with level, concrete pads and all the amenities.  It is maintained and has a salt water pool which we will not try out because it is just too cold.  We had dinner at AJ's Restaurant, one of only three non-fast food choices here.  There is no Starbuck's here, either.  That tells you how small it is.  Tomorrow we will head to Brigham City, UT.

Finally, we are underway with our Airstream we call TrailBayser.  After delays including replacing our tow vehicle, the Jeep with the Infiniti above, we solved the issue of too much weight on the rear axle of the car.  It would have been great if the Airstream people had told us about this in the first place, but salespeople just want to sell.  We also had a couple of water leaks, one Gary fixed on the first trip we took and one that Airstream fixed.  Now we have another one, so our destination tomorrow is Caldwell, ID where there is an Airstream repair facility and we should be able to get this fixed.  It may delay us but we're not on any particular schedule, so we will deal with it.

Tonight we are at Wildhorse Casino and RV Park in Pendleton, OR.  We have been here before and it is a perfect stopover on this trek to the East Coast.  The trip through the Columbia Gorge today was pretty, even though it was overcast and windy.  We saw beautiful Multnomah Falls and passed Bonneville Dam and Hood River, where windsurfers and sailboarders like to sail on the Columbia.  There were a few hearty souls out there even today.

This RV Park is on the desert but since we have had lots of rain it is fairly green right now.
There are motor homes visiting here, trailers, 5th wheels and also tent campers and some people who use the teepees.

Baby met a Shih Tzu who was exactly her size and age, but she is very shy and ran away from him.

We have just returned from our second trip in the Airstream.  We took Evan to Seattle to see the Chihuly Glass and Gardens and the Space Needle.  This was the same trip we did with Macy last year.  We stayed at the Kent KOA, which is a great place for kids because of the playground, but better in-season between Memorial Day and Labor Day when the pool and the breakfast restaurant are open.  It is a good campground but could use a little resurfacing of the asphalt and a little tightening up of its rules.  We would stay there again with kids, but probably not with just the two of us.

Evan said that seeing the Chihuly Glass and sleeping in the trailer made his dream come true.  He is six now and such a sweetheart.  He liked BBQ Pete's Restaurant so much that we ate there both nights.  He also got S'mores, so he was a very happy boy.

Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge at Lincoln City, OR.

Inside the TrailBayser.

The maiden voyage of the TrailBayser, our new Airstream Flying Cloud 27FB.  We are towing it with our Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, which is a diesel Jeep.  The ride was much smoother than any we experienced in the BaysBus, which was the point of the trade.  We are in Lincoln City, OR near the ocean at Premier RV Park.  We have stayed here twice before and enjoyed it.  Tonight we went to Chinook Winds Casino for their famous Friday night seafood buffet.  Very nice.  Tomorrow we will spend more time arranging our belongings in the trailer so we can remember where we put them.  I know, good luck with that!
